The American Legion was chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. It is the nation's largest veteran’s service organization.

Cameron is the host of the Milam County Junior Livestock Show, which is held the last weekend in March. Exhibitors as young as 5 years old can exhibit their livestock and home economic projects.
